With 2015 in the rear view mirror it’s time to look back and identify the major trends in the digital media landscape. Parsely, a company specializing in audience analytics, recently surveyed hundreds of digital publishers worldwide to compile their year-end poll and to identify the most notable trends of 2015.
The results, as summed up in the chart courtesy of Statista, reveal that mobile traffic is now exceeding desktop traffic for many publishers and is arguably the most noteworthy development in 2015. A mere decade ago Apple was preparing to introduce the smartphone, criticized as a niche gadget, today it is arguably the most important device for digital content consumption. The pace at which mobile content caught up with and finally surpassed desktop content is nothing short of amazing.
Other trends and topics worth noting in 2015 include the increase in social content distribution, ad-blocking and a more strategic use of analytics and big data.
