As recently reported in Cisco’s Visual Networking Index, smartphone traffic is predicted to grow from 1.74 exabyte per month in 2014 to more than 18 exabyte per months in 2019. While mobile file sharing will double from 1% to 2% of data traffic, the lion’s share by far is mobile video, rising to 72% from 55% currently. Cisco believes that smartphones will continue to dominate mobile traffic, rising from 69% in 2014 to 75% in 2019. Driving this rapid increase are faster networks allowing for that adaptation and usage of ever more data-intensive applications such as SaaS and also the growth in high-definiatin video viewed on mobile devices. It is believed that the average smartphone will consume 4 GB of data traffic per month by the year 2019 so now is the time to check your data plan to avoid this painful data overuse charges.
